I've checked out some fileformats on http://www.wotsit.demon.co.uk, and I
must say that the runtime length encoded version of BMP doesn't appear to
be that complex. In fact, At this very moment I've almost completed a
routine for creating PCX pictures I stared on earlier today.
RLE has a lot of things in common with PCX, actually.

So perhaps when I'm done with PCX, (tomorrow?) I'll give BMP a try.
(once you get into it, it's not at complex as it seems at first. Too bad I
just don't "see" LZW (GIF) encoding, yet...

Never mind, I'm almost done myself. :-)
I have no specific goal, I just want this sort of stuff to be _available_
for PB programmers when they need it.

Yes. And a little out of my league right now... :-/

There are plenty of utilities available for converting one file format into
another one. I want to be able to read them _directly_, so when the need
for a certain decoder should arise, it's available.
