But to just CHECK into ABLED, a BBS login would be more appropriate than
setting up a permanent software setup you may decide is irrelevant to
your needs/desires!

I think you're thinking of the old days, before Pentiums & DSL, when
BBSs were often S L O W.

True, true, but I still think for a simple check to see if something
will be of interest, a login would be best.
