OK, your V42bis connections are back to a 1-second delay before I
get the Yoohoo from you.  Do you still have the 1-second delay in
the script?  BTW, if setting sound_on = 0 doesn't stop that 
connect box, then perhaps putting a linked script with main() {}
in it would, and make sure the dial() command allows the linked
script to be executed.  Someone want to try that?  BFN.  Paul.
