Hi Brenton,
I saw a piece in the Sunday paper I thought you might find
interesting:
Sunday Telegraph, Jan22, 95
"ALARM AT HOME HIV TEST KITS
Proposals to market a do-it-yourself AIDS test in Australia have
alarmed cicil libertarians and welfare agencies.
Opponents have condemned the 8-minute home HIV kit as a "quick and
dirty" test which may only compound the suffering of those who may be
infected with the deadly virus.
The Incstar test, which uses saliva rather than blood products...
produced by the Dublin-based pharmaceutical company... it is the first
of three "quickie" tests in developemnt to reach the market.
Its makers claim it is "almost" as accurate as the more
time-consuming blood tests conducted by medical professionals.
Like a number of home pregnancy tests, the saliva swab turns blue
when test chemicals react to HIV anti-bodies..."
It goes on to say that "health and welfare" fuckwits were horrified,
and quotes a turd from the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations
who warned that the test could give a false sense of security.
"It's really, really dangerous stuff. It doesn't account for the
three-month period..." etc.
At first, I wondered what the problem was. Why all the fuss? Here,
we have a do-it-yourself AIDS test... until I saw the scenario:
Poofter with dick in one hand and Incstar in the other says: "Lick
this before you lick that." Test litmus turns blue. Poofter runs for
his life, pursued by other poofter trying to stick dick in his bum.
Their fear for the: "really, really dangerous" test is that it might
give the rest of us a way to identify HIV carriers ahead of time with
an 8-minute delay instead of two weeks. They prefer the 2-weeks.
I also find it amusing that the company is based in Dublin; not
exactly the centre of Science in Europe, but certainly the least
sympathetic towards poofters.
Regards,
Bob
