Hi Marion,
This bird is really starting to steal my heart.I have been watching her grow
up in my local pet store for the last year, never have I heard her make so
much as a peep-even though she is surrounded by birds. I was hired by the
store to train all their birds, I started a couple days ago. The first day I
tried to work with her I thought things were going too well. She has never
been handled except to keep her clipped, I removed her from her cage wrapped
in a towel and she was as gentle as a mouse.I was talking to her, rubbing her
head - she was just soaking it in. Then like a complete idiot I gave her a
kiss on the beak, she gave a little squeek and sunk her beak into my lip.She
just held on and stared at me,The girl who cleans the cages got all upset she
said "oh my god your bleeding how do we get her off"
You ever try to talk with a bird hanging off your lip? I mumbled stay back
and asked the bird very nicely to let go, she did (not quick enough for my
liking). I put her back into her cage and to let her know there was no hard
feelings I offered her a piece of Granola bar-to my surprise she took it.This
bird has never been fed anything but seed.I then moved onto a Tiel, While I
was working with him I kept saying "Hello" and doing the wolf whistle.
This morning I go into work and had the Ringneck and a budgie brought in
to start with. As I'm sitting on one side of the room handling the budgie and
saying Hello, to my surprise as clear as day the Ringneck does the wolf
whistle and says Hello.I almost fell off my stool.I said Hello - she said
Hello,we went back and forth for awhile.I then shared my apple with her to
her delight. She will eat from my hand but will not step up,I guess we'll see
what tomorrow brings.I think I'm already a gonner-her name is now Jade.
   Deb....
BTW I had my Tetanus shot updated today :)
