PE> Even at the best of times, it takes about 12 seconds from PE> the time my Spirit answers the phone to the time I get a PE> connect string back. That is excessive, isn't it? Not really. By the time they negotiate on the line speed stuff, test the line etc, then negotiate the protocol stuff in the V42 etc, it takes about that time. USR to USR can be rather quicker but thats making some assumptions because its USR to USR. PE> Especially when it is connecting at 14400, which should be PE> the first tone that is put out. Thats an antique myth now. That 'first tone put out' stuff was what was done in the old FSK days, but they are very very long gone now. That initial speed stuff is done quite differently now. PE> If you guys force V32bis, would that help? Nope. PE> Or is there anything that would help? In theory there is some stuff that can be done, but it will inevitably fang your arse in the circumstances like when you did the Viper test. What the fuck is the point when say with my calls they are typically over 3:30 minutes, who cares about say the 4 secs you might save if you are fucking lucky ? --- PQWK202* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
