Hello Paul,

PE> If you're travelling at 100km/hr in 4th gear, and then you stick the
PE> thing into 1st gear and take your foot off the clutch, what happens?
PE> I'd try it out, it's just I'm not quite finished with my car yet. :-)

Chances are it'll never get into first without stripping the gearbox to bits.
Even without the clutch. If it does manage to hold together though, you'll
lock the back wheels, and probably lose control. If you're good, you may be
able to hold it together through the fishtailing, but I don't hold much chance
of you not hitting a pole or something.

You'll do similar damage if you do about 40Ks, and force it into reverse. It's
a bit safer as well.
You'll probably have to push hard though. The grinding noise might alarm you
too. Those little bits of metal left over on the road behind you probably
won't do too much good either.
