Hi, Paul.

PE> FM> I will resend SHARES.ZIP with this mail. TIC00024.TIC contains

PE> FM> Area SPECIALR
PE> FM> Origin 3:711/934.24
PE> FM> From 3:711/934

PE>Change this "From" to 3:711/934.24 and it works!

OK, I'll do that next time. So, did it work without the .24?

PE>Yep, your proper password worked fine, and the CRC was not required!

Good!

PE> PE>> BTW, I am now timing all time I spend on BBS work, Email, TV,
PE> PE>> writing code etc, in an effort to reduce the amount of time
PE> PE>> wasted. BFN. Paul.

PE> FM> Did you write the time tracking proggy in PD C? Or just use 123? :-)

PE>text files here please. And yeah, I haven't figured out how to
PE>make it add up automatically yet. Perhaps it would have been a
PE>better idea to put it in a spreadsheet.

Yes, I would do that as a matter of course, export it if I ever needed
it in text form.

PE> PE>> P.S. In summary, please help me to make the BBS automated, so
PE> PE>> that I don't get frustrated, and you don't have to put up with
PE> PE>> delays and errors caused by the sysop having to touch the BBS.

PE> FM> I appreciate that you want to spend as little time as possible doing
PE>the
PE> FM> boring administrative shit. So do I. Like upgrading s/w. :-)

PE>upgrade to 222, but I'll send you 230 anyway. Brenton is the
PE>only one using it. I'll also send you 202 if you are so
PE>worried about reliability that you want to use the version that's
PE>in the longest use so far. I think the config files changed
PE>since 202 though, so you'll probably have a lot of trouble trying
PE>to do that. But I haven't seen Rod sending netmail to random
PE>destinations yet. Of course there is heaps of bugs in 202, I
PE>fixed them. Also the documentation is probably very wrong.
PE>Please do one or the other. You said you would upgrade a couple
PE>of weeks ago. If you tell me the name of the directory you
PE>have QWK2PKT.EXE in, I can tell you the exact syntax you need to
PE>copy the file. It's probably a good idea to copy PKT2QWK.EXE
PE>too.

I have now installed 230 (PKT2QWK & QWK2PKT), no (new) problems yet.

PE> FM> If you file attach to a public message in a normal echo (not netmail),
PE> FM> what happens? Or should this only be used with netmail?

PE>I think this sort of thing is only meant to be done by netmail.
PE>I am not sure how it works. But I THINK that the only way you
PE>can do this is if you make the subject of one of your messages
PE>"SHARES.ZIP" and then set the file-attach flag. Since you're
PE>using a brain-dead QWK system instead of using proper point
PE>software, the only way you will be able to set that flag is if

OLX allows you to attach messages, don't know how your QWK2PKT will
handle that, though. I'll send you a netmail in this bunch with
something attached, see if it gets through.

PE>you zap the file-attach attribute in the PKT. In order to do
PE>this, I suggest you write one message, as above, and then
PE>export it. Then you need to go and zap the *.PKT. There will
PE>be a fixed header in the PKT, followed by a fixed message
PE>header. The PKT header is 58 bytes. Then another 2 bytes and
PE>the attributes bytes start. The low order starts first, so
PE>if you first skip 60 bytes, then you will be ready to update
PE>the low-order attribute. Now bit 4 of the attribute word is
PE>the file-attach bit, so if you OR the 61st byte with 0x10 you
PE>will set that bit. QWK2PKT probably puts in a fixed number
PE>there (0x01 probably) normally for netmail, so all you need
PE>to do is change this to 0x11.

PE>It would be possible to enhance QWK2PKT so that on the "To:"
PE>line, you could add some flags, e.g. "PVT", "File" etc.
PE>Sounds like a job for Bob. BFN. Paul.

But if OLX (& maybe other QWK processors) allows ATTACH, shouldn't
QWK2PKT be able to pick that up?

PE>P.S. David, if you're reading this, I think I have set up my
PE>system correctly so that you can file attach something to
PE>someone else and it will automatically get forwarded. Would
PE>you care to send Frank a file via file-attach?

I'll see if it gets here.

Regards, FIM.
