-> In the aircraft bands there is mention of DME, MARS, VOLMET and some
-> others.
-> In other bands I have noticed mentions of SPOT FREQUENCYS and GUARD
-> BANDS, FIXED TIME SIGNALS, etc
I believe DME has to do with navigation, but that's about it on that.
MARS is Military Affiliate Radio Station, a group of volunteers that
pass messages (including phone patches) for free for Military members.
Guard Freqs are a freq that is monitored when a plane or helo (Coast
Guard is what I listen to mostly, but it's used by all Military) is on
an operation. They don't usually maintain constant contact, but check
in at fixed intervals on specific freqs, which are monitored constantly
(being 'on guard').
