-> I really don't know what to put in this message except come right out and
-> ask..
-> My nephew (4 years old) has been diagnosed ADHD. He's on Ritolin (sp?)
nd
-> is what my sister-in-law consideres the "PERFECT" child when he's on
-> it...and when it wears off he's like "child from hell" (her words).
Yes I have a 9 year old who is alot like that. She was doing very poorly in
school, and was constantly bouncing off the walls at home. Once diagnosed
with
ADHD and put on Ritilan she became a totally different child. She became an
honor role student and a better listener. Problem is that we only give her
the
meds for school, and to get her through her homework. Once the meds wear off
she suffers from what is called ritalin rebound, which usually causes
increased
ADHD characteristics for a while.
->
-> She asks me to watch him, but when I do I watch him in the evening time
when
-> his meds are just wearing off. He constantly beats on me and throws
-> everything he can at me so he doesn't have to go to bed or go to the
-> bathroom or brush his teeth or sit down or anything.
->
-> I'm trying to figure out a way to deal with him being the way he is whien
-> the meds wear off and still keep my sanity.
This is quite the quandry. Have you tried time outs (4 mins for 4 years)?
f
not I suggest it. If there is one thing an ADHD child cannot stand it is
having to stay seated for any length of time doing nothing. This is a way of
disciplining without hurting. As for his temper tantrums, it is best that
ou
keep control of yourself, and stick to your demands. Once he finally
ealizes
that you won't back down he will.
Also remember count to ten and take a couple of deep breaths when you feel
yourself getting to the breaking point.
