subject: files from users

Hi, Paul.

PE>I have found that I have already gone halfway, and that I have
PE>already set up a file area for you to send in special file
PE>updates. This way you don't have to hassle me, you can simply
PE>send something to Special Requests and it automatically gets
PE>put in there. To do this you need to send your file in with
PE>a TIC file as well. I don't know what the naming standards
PE>are. If you were to use YATIC, it will probably do all this
PE>automatically for you. It is extremely complicated to set up
PE>though. Perhaps one/several of you would like to try, and
PE>see who is successful. I don't know if it's legal, but try
PE>calling your file TICxxxxx.TIC, where xxxxx is your point
PE>number, in decimal, with leading zeros. Here is what the
PE>file should like like:

I will resend SHARES.ZIP with this mail. TIC00024.TIC contains

Area SPECIALR
Origin 3:711/934.24
From 3:711/934
File SHARES.ZIP
Desc An incredibly boring file on share prices for 5 stocks
Pw XXXXXXXX

Left out the CRC line (let's hope it works, I don't particularly want to
stuff around with that to send a file) and, of course, replaced XXXXXXXX
with FUCKYOU in the Pw line - let's hope *this* password doesn't get
compromised.

PE>You can all try various things if you want, at the same time,
PE>just upload some files, say POINTxxx.TXT, about 20 bytes
PE>long. So get your setup automated so that you upload one of
PE>these files, plus the TIC file, and then FREQ the FILES list
PE>each day. (of course it will take 24 hours for the file
PE>list to be updated). This way, you can experiment one day,
PE>and 2 days later you check to see if it worked.

I'll grab FILES next day, don't normally bother d/l-ing it every day.

PE>If you never plan to ever send me files for your mealy-mouthed
PE>friends to use, don't bother doing any experiments.

I *only* send files to mealy-mouthed friends (and fascist sysops ).

PE>BTW, I am now timing all time I spend on BBS work, Email, TV,
PE>writing code etc, in an effort to reduce the amount of time
PE>wasted. BFN. Paul.

Did you write the time tracking proggy in PD C? Or just use 123? :-)

PE>P.S. In summary, please help me to make the BBS automated, so
PE>that I don't get frustrated, and you don't have to put up with
PE>delays and errors caused by the sysop having to touch the BBS.

I appreciate that you want to spend as little time as possible doing the
boring administrative shit. So do I. Like upgrading s/w. :-)

PE>P.P.S. Another step is to figure out how to get messages from
PE>one user automatically forwarded to another user. I think I
PE>can do this with "Forward From" and "Forward To" in squish,
PE>but I'm not sure. Also, I'm not really sure how you are
PE>meant to send them yourself, unless it's via file attaches.
PE>Perhaps it's not something that needs to be done yet, as
PE>I've only had the one case of someone saying "can you send
PE>xyz file to abc" instead of "can you make this file available
PE>for freq".

If you file attach to a public message in a normal echo (not netmail),
what happens? Or should this only be used with netmail?

Regards, FIM.
