Technically, no. The engine is only really drawing things at various
angles and checking your position on them. Now with Quake, everything has an
X, Y and Z value in the game space, and is an object into itself.

Yes, it's about time. Actually, intrepid Quake players have done that
already, though in a more simple form. All it really does is switch to a
well-positioned intermission view.
