You linked without problems to the stock MSGAPI32 DLL? That's odd... I'm almost positive that I wasn't doing anything differently than you were. (In fact, I relinked the code with a static library and it worked fine.) It's probably a calling convention mismatch.. (The DLL may be pulling the return address (perhaps expecting another argument) off the stack and returning to some garbage location in the code.
