BL> How else can you crop a file? This is a serious question. BL> My hex editor only changes what is already there. RS> Buergs List will do that. You need some care to ensure RS> that its not translating too, but its possible. BL> I've always found LIST incredibly obscure to use. Yep, no argument there, classic example of a fucked user interface. With the classic result you often get with a fucked user interface, useful functions so obscured by the user interface that many people dont even notice they are there. BL> Mr Buerg has a strange mind (as well as a strange name). Yeah. Not quite as bad as Dave Nugent who manages to produce the weirdest user interfaces that you are likely to find, but close. That Shez fellow Jim Derr is pretty bad too. Even worse in some ways where the sorts of actions you can do with say normal letter keys is completely different in the file list and the list of files in a particular archive. The whole philosophy is different with the letter key going to the first file starting with that letter in the file list, but being a command in the list of files in an archive. Totally fuck and quite bizarre. People like that should be burnt at the stake. RS> What hex editor are you using ? BL> Hedit. It runs under Windows quite nicely. I've also got Norton BL> Editor, but it's a monster to use, Yeah, a rather quirky user interface in some ways. Some nice stuff tho, particularly the dual cursors in the hex and ascii displays and the multiwindows and searches and stuff. More fancy than you usually see in a hex editor. BL> won't run under windows, Cant say I've tried. BL> and is about as intuitive as an electric gorilla. Yeah, some pretty non intuitive hotkey usage. BL> I'd rather use the gorilla. The gorilla might have other ideas. RS> Nortons Diskedit can do it fine, tho its a tad non intuitive RS> in the sense that you should cut that bit you want to a new RS> file rather than try to edit the original. BL> I've tried that, but it never seems to work. Thats probably just because its less intuitive than it should be. BL> I really don't understand why people think Norton stuff is good. BL> It's absolutely awful! I've got an old PCTools editor that works BL> okay, but I didn't expect that Dieter would have it. I have used it and have forgotten the detail. I certainly preferred the Nortons stuff. PCTools can be fucking weird user interface wise too. Particularly that backup prog which is just quite bizarre. --- PQWK202* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
