There's another line of thought I have read on the origin of this
song. I think it stems from all the transcripts of the Let It Be
sessions.

The transcripts seem to paint the picture that George was tired of
trying to bring forth some of his excellent All Things Must Pass
material that the other guys weren't too interested in and that John
was having trouble keeping up with given his apathy and his
intoxication at that point. George was rumored to have created this
simple 12 bar so that John would be able to keep up with it in his
often drugged state. So, George clearly knew this was a
non-challenging piece of work. I don't know the true believability of
this train of thought though.
