You can use the zip/unzip utility, which creates !2 files, in 4 parts,
which keeps the directory + BAM intact, then use an ARC utility to link
them all up into one file.

Well, something like this would be nice, but don't forget the single
drive users.  You would need to be able to do disk swaps, and also be
able to use two drives as well if you have them.
