YUP!!! <  In needle tatting, there has to be a knot tied or the little 
circular rings come undone.  You have to be careful so the tatting doesn't 
get turned around backwards <

I've got a magazine article, I'll have to look it up.  Also there is a web 
page that has needle tatting instructions on it as well.
