I had just such a system in a house that burned down... grassfire
unrelated to the heating system. which was a woodstove with a
coil of 7/16 copper tubing around the tin stovepipe, which fed
into the water tank of a defunct gas water heater that was placed
upstairs, directly above the stove. worked well.
One of the outlets on the top of the tank was actually the top
end of a plastic pipe that went to the bottom of the tank, so a
thermosiphon will not work on that one, but the other did fine.
The cold feed was by replacing the drain cock on the lower end.
