Did they serve the plantains in the form of "fritters"?  The first time I
knowingly tried plantains was at a Puerto Rican restaurant.  They were
served in a form that looked a lot like my mother's/grandmother's
cornbread "fritters" (i.e. look like cornbread pancackes).  They were
delicious.  I only got to visit there a couple of times before it closed.
