subject: Re: Domain problem?

From: Thees Peereboom

Bob,

When I log on my main system, it reports 'name already exists in network'.
From there on shares no longer work and I can not browse to other machines
using Windows Networking. TCP/IP and other protocols still work. When I
look at Network environment from this machine (DELL) there are no other
machines visible.

When looking from another machine using network environment, I can find my
own machine, I also find a new domain that carries the name of my machine,
DELL. The usual domain is called IBMPEERS (it started its life as ..., you
guessed it...)

When I try to administer this DELL domain (from the PDC that administers
IBMPEERS) it claims that it can't find the PDC for that domain. In the
IBMPEERS domain I already deleted and added the machine DELL again and
promoted it to BDC. No problem. But when I want to synch the PDC and BDC, I
get the message 'access denied'.

So from other machines I see and can use the machine DELL. From the machine
DELL I see no other machines when using Microsoft Networking.

Now, aren't you glad you asked
