CM>JS> out, not really a problem unless you count your rounds and like
CM>JS> to swap
CM>JS> before the last one or two bullets are out...
CM> why do you swap before the last bullets are out????.....
Okay- picture this scenario: You've got 3 30-round magazines fully
loaded, you fire against an oncoming squad in the open from a bunker,
and manage to take out all 8 or so guys, using 25 rounds in the process.
You now have 5 rounds left. You suspect another squad is going to storm
the bunker in a few seconds. Do you swap magazines now, while noone is
charging and shooting at you, and have a full 30 rounds ready for when
they do? Or do you wait until they charge, fire 5 rounds and drop maybe 3
out of the 8 guys, then try to reload while 5 really pissed off enemy
troops are bearing down on your position, hoping to get within grenade
range? :-) Same idea can apply to any time you anticipate needing
multiple rounds. It's also done in sport combat shooting to eliminate
the time needed to release a locked back slide

hey
CM>were.......I'll tell ya how I like the SKS....so let me get this
right...do y
CM>have detachable magazines on your SKS?...if you do how much did the kit
cost
CM>and where did you get it?...
The ones I have are not kits, they just require the removal of the fixed
10 round magazine. Cabela's (1-800-237-4444) still has some Zytel ones,
and while plastic is not as durable as steel, you might just grab one or
two. Cat. # fg-21-0903, $22. Check the gun shows though, I still see
plenty of USA brand magazines. I also picked up a 5 round mag that sits
flush with the stock, looks downright politically correct. And 30 round
mags are just a few seconds away... :-)
The 5 round magazine is especially good for hunting, no hassles where
capacities are an issue. Properly loaded, the SKS could be what the
30-30 lever action was for the average hunter for the past 50 years.
