  Although I'm not up to date with whatever offers and suchlike
  currently apply in funny money, as far as I am aware IBM VisualAge C++
  3.01, Borland C++ 2.0 for OS/2, and Watcom C++ 10.5 are *all*
  available for below that price.

  Or maybe I'm thinking of IBM CSet++. I seem to recall noting that
  VisualAge C++ is significantly more expensive than CSet++.

  A software catalogue local to your country would probably be your best
  resource.

  The use of the word "other" in that sentence implies that the Petzold
  book for OS/2 is itself good. Many people consider it to be somewhat
  mediocre. This is partly because Petzold mainly covers only those
  aspects of PM programming that have Windows equivalents. There's a
  lot to PM that *isn't* in Windows.

  There are many programming books for OS/2 and Presentation Manager.
  _Real_World_Programming_for_OS/2_ is probably the most widely
  recommended, although it is not the only one.

  Since you are asking about C++ compilers, I should point you in the
  direction of the Highly Unofficial FIDONET OS2PROG C++ Compiler Pros
  and Cons list. I post it regularly here in OS2PROG, and it is (was)
  also available on one of the Fernwood filebones.
