Geo,

It wouldn't let me change the domainname, but I left the domain, changed to
workgroup, deleted the machine from the domain, booted as a
workgroupmember, changed to domain with a new name for the machine,
recreated the machine with its new name in the domain, rebooted and voila!
Just will have to change the networkprinters and shares.
