Yoo Hoo, Judi!
On June 20th '97 you wrote to David Mehrmann:
JM> song of the south is the name of an old movie that you youngsters
JM> nowadays will probably never see. its about an old black slave that told
I've seen the movie and there is nothing in it calling the character
of Uncle Remus "a slave".
(From Rich: Yes, Carol's right. In fact, it is made quite clear that
the movie is set in the time after slavery in the U.S. ended.)
JM> stories to children. since its not "pc" to talk about slavery (maybe if
JM> we dont talk about it it wont have ever happened i guesss) i doubt
JM> americans will ever see it on a movie screen again.
See my post to someone else about SotS. There are persistent rumors
the film may be released to home video next year in a manner that
will put its setting in historic and literary context. Rumors are, of
course, worth the paper they are printed on :-) but we'll see what happens,
if anything.
