And that's the reason I was KK> recommending these chances to get back the 'grip' on the system - what KK> the original questioner wanted to do (imho) :-). I am the original questioner. My problem is this - I have a dual boot machine which has DOS or OS/2. It is often used by a friend who uses a full screen DOS app which tends to hang. When it hangs under DOS, the correct response is C-A-D. WHne it hangs under OS/2, this is not the apporpriate action. How is the user supposed to know whether I booted into OS/2? I wanty them to press C-A-D and then get told it was OS/2 and they don't need to kill the system. Watchcat is all very well, but its hardly the right menu for a non-technical user who really only wanted to kill the current app and doesn't know what multi-tasking is. I want (the option of) a menu that pops up and promotes the concept of OS/2 without going overboard, and asks the user whether they wanted to kill the current program, or the entire machine, or whether they didnt mean to press C-A-D at all, now they know they could press CTRL-ESC instead. I would accept any reasonable compromise required to retain staility, (eg the menu is run with ints off, damaging server and comms), and I certainly would not want it forced on others who don't need this, but when you run OS/2 in a 99%DOS shop, I should have thought it would be rather useful. It could be an (advanced) install option. (Or a retro-fit from DevCon). I still want it - and I really don't want to write my own, but I may ahve to. Andrew ... Microsoft service.
