Hi Mike / Peter!
[IFS development]
Hmm, I'm just thinking seriously about a UNC-IFS which gives a slight
relief from the drive letters. I'd like to implement it as follows:
ASSIGN BBS=F:\BBS\
ASSIGN SYSTEM=D:\OS2\SYSTEM\
...
Then an access attempt on \\bbs\xxx would be rerouted to F:\BBS\xxx then.
Actually this would be very similar to Peter's SUBST.IFS.
Can I use the normal 32-bit (or 16-bit) API
DosOpen,DosRead,DosWrite,...,DosClose from within a IFS ? Or would it be
more suitable to divide the IFS into R0- and R3-parts (see EDM/2 documents)
? Is it possible anyway to get the intended results ? Any comments are
appreciated :)
BTW: Are there any undocumented FSCtls in HPFS for flushing the internal
caches (especialls the directory caches) ? Altough the re-mounting of a
partition on a removable/fixed media (syquest) works via
DSK_REDETERMINEMEDIA, sometimes HPFS doesn't reload it's directory
structures.
Or does anyone already know about a changed IFS (perhaps IFS32)
architecture in the next upcoming OS/2 versions (PPC and Intel). ? If there
are major changes coming, my work on an IFS would be rather worthless ...
