It is not "hating Nintendo" as much as it is hating their
decision to stick with a media (carts) that is both the most limiting
and the most expensive - targetted at an audience (children) which can
least afford it. Add all of this together; expensive games, limited in
size, and targetted for children, it's easy to see why a lot of loyal
gamers have really been left out of Nintendo's "equation for success".
No one doubts that it is a great system. It's just too bad that
Nintendo is either too stubborn or too stupid to really open up the
potential of their game system, and like Sega, are pretty much killing
themselves.
Another point is that just because a lot of people don't agree
that "the N64 is the best" doesn't automatically mean that we hate it.
We're just not blind to it's glaring flaws - and the realization that
Nintendo really dropped the ball and could have done a LOT better.
