BL> I'm still not completely sold on the idea of acupuncture. Probably

The lady had pretty bad lordosis because of one leg shorter than the
other. The acupuncture loosened up her back muscles and allowed her to
have a straighter spine, thus the 2" gain in height. And the muscle
relaxation reduces her pains and relieves any pinched nerve.
Acupuncture is generally pretty good for neuropathy and muscle
spasm-related pains. It is a good temporary [1 to 3 days] pain relief
method for joint pains from arthritis and other inflammations.
Another project I am starting on is testing Micro Current on
bone-knitting.
Micro current is the same principle as TENS, but the current and
amplitude of the waves are much more micro than TENS. So the patient
does not feel any vibrations. The British tested it in the early '80s
on broken bones that would not mend. They stick electrode pads on the
skin, [4 of them], bracketing the site. They found it to be effective
in getting the bones to knit, especially those which had not done so
after a year of pinning.
For myself, I have inflammation in bilateral fascia over my greater
Trochanters [hips]. Anti-inflammatories did not do anything. I stuck
on my Micro current, and BINGO!, 30 minutes later, the joints are not
stiff anymore, and no pain. But the effect is temporary. The longer
you leave the vibes on, the longer the washout period [effective after
the machine is removed].
The hips surgeon in the hospital I work at is quite interested in
trying that out with his elderly patients. If this works, they can be
mobilized faster and experience less pain. The elderly are very
sensitive to narcotics and its use delays their recovery.
The machine manufacturer would be willing to supply a few machines
for the trial [cost around $600 USD each].
We can only tell from well-plotted clinical trials whether any
technique genuinely works. And that takes time.
Cheers
Diana
