You're only buttressing my point -- this is exactly why I want CAD to
bypass any UI code.

You probably noticed that,  in your above situation,  your file systems
were shutdown cleanly.

[Tip: ctrl-alt-del a second time will often work when c-a-d once does
 not -- the first time gives WPS a chance to clean things up,  but since
 90% of the time a hosed WPS and/or PM are the reason why you are
 CAD'ing in the first place,  it may not work.  The 2nd time,  the file
 systems are shutdown and the system is really rebooted.  If CAD the 2nd
 time does not respond,  then you can really say "Warp connect crashed",
 otherwise,  it was only an application or warp-component that went
 south].
