It's my understanding that electronic flashes do have
quite a bit of UV, and that one pop of flash packs a
considerable amount of damage, said to be equivalent
to a few days of direct sunlight. Saw that somewhere,
this is why some museums prohibit flash even if there
are no other patrons to annoy.
Probably best to use some sort of tungsten lamps,
maybe photo floods at a relatively long distance, with
a high resolution digicam, OR, use the best digital
camera available to make a series of close-up exposures
and stitch them together.
