You should do it if you can. I went through a similar situation regarding my 
Commodore 64 around the same time. Eventually I was able to put together 
another Commodore system with a serial to ethernet adapter and I've had a 
lot of fun using it for email, BBS-ing, web surfing and downloading software.

Sounds like a nice setup. What was the name of your BBS? What software were you
running?
