RD> Ivy,posting a UU-enocded file here once in a while is ok,(as long as
RD> it is something real short G!) but just to let you know that some
RD> sysop's frown on it coming thru their BBS's with their normal echo
RD> traffic.
I am well aware of this. There was a request for plans for an easy-to-
build antenna which I have found to be an extremely effective non-
directional 2 M skyhook, and since a lot of BBSs cannot handle high
ASCII, my only option, short of crashmail, was to UUencode it and put it
in a message. It is not something which I do regularly, and I do keep the
length of ALL my messages under aproximately 120 lines because some
tossers cannot handle longer files, and this post was comfortably under
that limit. I am painfully aware of what long posts can do to a tosser,
because mine cuts off at 200 lines sharp, and I have had to ask for
a repost, with messages broken into smaller chunks for that reason.
I am also paifully aware of what it co$t$ to transport files, since I am
disabled, and have to bring in all my FidoNet by long distance.
RD> If you can, post any BASIC-type small antenna programs in
RD> plain-text to avoid a sysop getting upset with the UU-encoded stuff.
I'm sorry, I do not have any programs for calculating J-poles. All I
have is a generic antenna (vertical/longwire) calculating program.
RD> Their are several J-pole programs written in BASIC for DOS,but it
RD> depends on --which-- version of the BASIC compiler they were written
RD> under. Maybe a small note to state which version of BASIC and DOS the
RD> program can be run under will save time if someone runs it and has a
RD> problem with it crashing. GW-BASIC (early DOS 3.?? or DOS 5.0) BASIC
RD> programs will not run under MS-DOS 6.00 and up with the newer version
RD> of QBASIC and can hang and crash.
You have just pointed out a problem with sending listings of BASIC
programs... they require the correct version in order to be run, so are
not very portable, unless whoever receives them is familiar enough with
both "supplied" and "available" versions of BASIC to be able to translate
to a different version. Compiled programs cannot be sent as messages
unless they have been UUencoded, and are a LOT larger than just sending a
drawing... which brings us back to the question of posting UUencoded
files...
