BM>DM> What's the "Song of the South"? Is it from a movie? All I know is
BM>DM> that it's Disney, and that it's said nobody can buy it on Video or
BM>DM> CD for a reason unknown to me.
BM>Disney has been reluctant to re-release this film in the United States
BM>for reasons of "political correctness" or lack thereof. Remus was a
BM>slave, and seemed happy with his life. Disney, apparently, is concerned
BM>that this would suggest that the company endorsed that Most Peculiar
BM>Institution (slavery), and bring down boycotts and public outcry. Most
BM>of the Disniphiles I know think this is silly, but that's how American
BM>business works in the last quarter of the twentieth century.
I just opened this conference, and am glad to see this subject
come up, as I was going to comment on this problem.
Sometime in the last year I found out that Disney had kowtowed
to the NAACP in blocking distribution of the video. Ever since
then, I have been ticked off at both Disney and the NAACP.
I really hate PC (Political Correctness). ;-)
The NAACP strikes another blow for racial harmony. NOT !!!!!!!
I've heard that it is available on a Japanese laserdisk; but
I don't have a laser disk player, or any idea where to get
the disk. If someone has a bootleg copy of the thing on
VHS tape, I'll pay $40 bucks for it. Leave E-Mail address.
Thanks.
