Hello All!

After 9-11, there was an outcry to take the necessary steps to reduce the
chances of something like it happening again. Eventually we saw the passage
of the Patriot Act and the formation of a new cabinet level agency.

Years later, people have grown to hate the steps taken, bemoaning that
civil rights are being trampled, constitution ignored or sidestepped and to
merely travel by air has become a hellish nightmare snarled by limits,
regulations and long wait times to check in and board.

We now have another tragedy on our hands, the Va Tech shootings.

Its going to be interesting what demands will be made to improve security
to reduce the chances of this happening again, at this school and perhaps
others?

Will there be armed security on every corner?

Will faculty and students have to submit to strip searches and pat downs to
make sure they arent carrying weapons, especially plastic guns such as the
Glock?

With laptop computers commonplace, will they have their laptop bags and
bookbags searched at every building?

As tragic as this event is, the worst shooting in US History, it took 3000+
americans to die on 9-11 and people tired only 3 years after the fact of
the steps put in place because of it. I suspect whatever bandaid is affixed
to this incident will also be short lived.
