we've been using the free AVAST! antivirus on our winwhatever machines...
you only need to refresh the free registration once a year with a valid
email address... you should use separate email addresses for each
machine...

we like it and have not had any problems with it... it updates on a regular
schedule and doesn't seem to intrude too much... we do have numerous of
their external participatory stuffs turned off, though ;)
