David was hit by a Randy Johnson fastball for uttering:
DL> Heck for an ERA of six, the Braves could have had Steve Howe for the
DL> price of a contract.
As a lefthander, he was tough on lefties (.217 in 1995, .186 in 1996). As an
Atlanta Brave, he's going to be put more into THOSE type of situations. You
remind me of the people that were whining about Gary Templeton going to San
Diego for Ozzie Smith. Smith had a terrible batting average but because he
was the same kind of hitter as Templeton, the artificial turf helped him like
it helped Templeton and the grass hurt Templeton like it did Smith (But it
affected Templeton less and helped Smith less because Templeton WAS a better
hitter on either surface). Given that Smith was the far better fielder, the
Cards made out a lot better in the trade. Embree is going to be doing what
he's good at and that's taking on lefties.
DL> Grissom and David Justice, and get one good, or better, player in turn
DL> Kenny Lofton, and a throw in that happens to be left-handed.
Embree's NOT a throw-in. You're being pretty short-sighted on this one,
David. Don't assume that the Braves will pitch Embree like the Indians did or
that they simply took *anyone* just to complete the deal. Until they get
Borbon back, the Braves are in need of a lefty and Embree fits the bill.
