Yes, I can understand the confusion.

Unfortunately after the quotes and quotes-of-quotes are edited,
it is sometimes difficult see exactly what is going on.

Yes, that's about what I understood. Unfortunately with FTP07, I
have trouble with step 1. And Arachne works automatically up to
step 4 but stalls at that point.

However I have been put onto another FTP program which I've
downloaded and as soon as I can find the time I shall try it out.

But it is still a point of disappointment to me that Arachne
can't do it.

I have posted a message about this problem in Arachne's newsgroup
and in the last few days received a number of replies, including
one from Glenn McCorkle.

He states that he has found that Arachne has some problems with
certain FTP servers. He says: "This does not seem to be a problem
in Arachmne itself, but rather an incompatability with some FTP
server setups."

Is he implying that the fault is that some FTP servers are
incompatible with Arachne, rather than the other way around?
Hmmm...
