Hey Skip,
No offense intended. I was just trying to comment on the fact that
in the 60's most adults viewed the Beatles as ugly and filthy whereas
any young girl today who falls in love with Paul's big doe eyes on an
old album cover probably has the tacit approval of mum and daddy.
Walking around the house muttering "the killer awoke at dawn... He put
his boots on" is kind of a different scenario...

The rebellion versus conformity thing is a little complicated.
A lot of "rebels" don't seem to realize they're wearing a uniform.
And it can take more courage to rebel against your peer group than
some "authority figure". Spoken like a forty year old? Having spent
at least 25 years exploring music outside the top 40, I've got some
pride in appreciating obscure music, but I also reached the point
of reacquiring the Three Dog Night albums I found too embarrassing
to own in my college days. Hey, some people collect 8 tracks.

For the purpose of this discussion, yes, and I agree. All I'm really
saying is that I'm slightly nauseated by the smug approval bestowed by
certain oldsters on the tweenies who "luv the music of the sixties"
because they appreciate _Sgt. Pepper_ at the same level that their
peers luv NKOTB, Nelson, Hanson or whatever is currently top 40.
