That is why I have consulted several native English speakers. Real native
English speakers, not the ones that speak the dialect west of the Atlantic.

Not according to the real native English speakers. They all agreed that
"first among equals ZC" means that the IC must be a ZC, period.


Note that it does not just say "first among equals", as you have
quoted, it says "first among equals ZC".

Suppose there were something else in plcae of the "first among
equals" f.e. "The IC is the oldest IC".

Would there then have been any doubt in your mind that one can not resign
as ZC and remain IC?
