BH>What am I going to do with these CH's???
BH>I have had them together about two years now and nothing. They get in
BH>the box and the hen just about stays there. They seem to have bonded
BH>fine.
BH>The hen was previously a pet, but relatively quickly bonded to the male.
BH>The male came from Howard Voren, and the hen was previously my Doc's
BH>pet. I'm about to nail a board across their nestbox opening or something
BH>to get them encouraged! Drives me nutzo. Can't get more hot or humid
BH>here, we're in North Fla.
BH>Ideas?
BH>They're outdoors,BTW, near other conures, no other CH's or mitreds.
Try this--take a 3"-4" thick block of basswood (carving wood, available
at most hobby stores). Glue it from the INSIDE of the box with non-toxic
Elmer's glue so it covers the hole. Let them chew through that. Offer
them lots of citrus fruits, and some vitamin E, and wheatgrass powder,
along with their regular diet. This worked to get babies from my
Jendays, who used to lay and incubate clear eggs instead of taking time
to mate.
My cherries are not near any other conures, and that doesn't seem to
bother them (they CAN hear their daughter and the Jendays upstairs, but
the sound is muffled through the floor). But maybe if yours can hear
or see the other conures mating, it might help them get the idea.
Good luck!
