-> Hi ALL , hope you are having a nice day
->
-> I have come across several hundered virii in a disk a friend gave me
Yeah,
-> I thought he was joking when he said that it was a disk full of virii and
-> batch file to execute them all topping it all off.) He "collects virii."
-> Have any of you ever heard of doing stuff like that? Anyone ever thought
-> about why one might do this? He just says he "likes to collect things
hat
-> can be destructive or constructive depending on how you look at it." He's
-> minoring in computer science, go figure. Anyways, straying off the topic.
-> Anyone else do this?
Does he collect the source code along with them or just the virii
themselves in executable form? Many (including myself) that are into
programming cannot help but be interested in some way in the source code of
these little "bundles of terror".
I have collected alot of virus source code over the years but never
store the compiled version anywhere on any system I care about . My main
interest is in polymorphic virii as, IMO, they are the most interesting to
watch over time (provided they are coded well).
I've let some polymorphic virii run on my old 286 for weeks at a time
to see how randomly it can change itself or how many unique ways it can come
up
with to duplicate itself and be non-detectable.
As long as your friend is not actively distributing or embedding
hese
virii in other software given or uploaded anywhere then I would just chalk it
up to a curious interest, especially seeing as he is in CS.
