Yup - it sucks doesn't it.  I remember reading something recently about
patching - saying it was like fixing a leaky tile on the roof whilst the
barn door if open - fairly true really.  It's almost a better bet to leave
patching (or at least minimise the amount you have to patch) by securing
your system other ways.
