BB> How can I send e-mail from a DOS client to the
BB> Win 95 Server and vise-versa ? What software do I need ?
I can't answer this one; we don't do Microsoft based email here.
BB> Also, can I connect a Harddisk-less DOS computer later ?
Yes; you can do a floppy based MS Client for DOS install (a very minimal
one). It works best on 2 drive systems; DOS system disk in A: and the MS
Client on the disk in B:
BB> Can I use a BOOT ROM or use a diskette for booting ?
If you can find a boot rom that support MS Client. This wasn't something we
ever considered for our operation. I was under the impression (based almost
completely on ignorance) that boot ROMS were mostly for Novell networks. A
couple of Novell 3.11 networks are the only lans I have seen personally that
used diskless workstations and launched the client PC from a ROM on the
network card. Maybe somebody in this echo with broader experience can answer
this one.
BB> Have you tried making the DOS client to a DOS server ?
BB> I read somewhere of WG1049.EXE (from /softlib/mslfiles at
BB> ftp.microsoft.com). which makes your DOS client to a
BB> client/server system.
I never had a reason to look into this. We were running Lantastic 6.0 and 7.0
for several years before we got into Microsoft based networking. Also, I was
under the impression that while the Microsoft Client for DOS software was
free (from Microsoft FTP site; also included in the NT3.51 and 4.0 Server CD
ROMs) the Microsoft Workgroup Server for DOS software was not. Didn't see any
reason to BUY something that duplicated functions we already had.
