Hello All,
Got an old AR1000? Is the "keyboard" intermittent, or even dead? If so, read
on.
My trusty old 1000 (now about 7 years old, and still used almost every day)
started to develop a fault about 18 months ago. Some of the "keys" wouldn't
respond unless you jabbed them many times. The problem got worse and worse,
until the scanner was unusable. I stripped it down twice, and cleaned the
PCB, but it was no-go.
I contacted AOR UK (very helpful guys) and they told me this is a known
fault. The membrane wears out/perishes, and cannot be rejuvenated. The good
news is that they will sell you a new membrane for a few quid AND NOW MY
AR1000 IS AS GOOD AS NEW!
Fitting the new membrane is a PITA, but if anyone has a kaput 1000
languishing in a cupboard, I'll happily talk you through the operation.
Netmail me for full details, or E-mail to mekka@lentil.org
Happy scanning,
  Richard Mekka G4AWY
