subject: Service Info?

Hello, all!
I'm not sure if this is the correct echo for this question - but
  here goes:
I've got an old Kenwood TM-221A 2 meter rig that I need to get
serviced. The battery that backs up the memory settings has faded
  out on me!
Is this something that can be easily replaced by myself - or should
I believe the manual and trust it ONLY to Kenwood's repair techs?
If so, would anyone know WHERE their repair facility(s) are located?
