NASA DEPUTY TALKS ABOUT HISTORY OF AFRICAN-AMERICANS

NASA Deputy Administrator Fred Gregory will give the keynote
address at the Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) Office of Fair
Practices Black History Month program.

The program is Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. EST at the
Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) Airport- Observation Gallery,
Linthicum, Md.

Gregory, a resident of Anne Arundel County, Md., will speak about the
history of African-Americans at NASA, how he attained his leadership
position and the agency's plans for space exploration and aerospace
research. The program will be followed by a question and answer
session.

"I'm delighted to share NASA's vision and mission with the BWI
community, and I'm honored to represent the agency at this Black
History Month event," Gregory said.

Gregory was appointed NASA's first African-American Deputy
Administrator in August 2002. He is a former astronaut, and he was the
first African-American Space Shuttle pilot and commander. He serves as
the chief operating officer for NASA.

"We are delighted to honor someone of Mr. Gregory's stature," said
Paul Wiedefeld, Executive Director of MAA. "He is a wonderful role
model for young people and an inspiration to those fascinated by space
exploration and aviation related programs that are both innovative and
timely, he said.

Call the MAA (410/859-7229) to reserve a seat or for more information.
