both of these are generally implemented via author released APIs... i know 
that both have APIs that are available... i'm not sure about the squish stuff 
but i do know that the JAM stuff is avaliable as JAMAPI at most places... 
there are, however, a few bugs to fix in what's out there... in both APIs 
IIRR... the JAM stuff comes in BOTH C and PASCAL flavors in the same 
package... full source code... i'm not sure about the squish stuff, but 
again, i think it has full sources also... i know that paul edwards has 
released several editions that he's modified/fixed... MSGAPI32.DLL is one 
that is in use by several programs on my system and PEs last release was 
MSGAPI38 IIRR...

MSGAPI32.DLL in use over here is compiled with WATCOM and is OS/2 format...
