RS> Its basically your modem fucking up the EC negotiation. RS> Our modems know they are still trying to negotiate the RS> EC when yours has decided that its over and done with. PE> Aren't you meant to negotiate the speed first, before the EC? Yes, and that actually happens. I can see that my modem has decided what speed has been agreed on. PE> If so, unless you're forcing EC, you should be able to connect regardless. No, *YOUR* modem thinks that the negotiation on the EC is complete, and that the two modems have agreed on a no protocol session. *MY* modem thinks that the two modems are still negotiating the EC. It keeps waiting for *YOUR* modem to complete the negotiation as its supposed to. YOUR modem never does because it thinks it already has. So you dont actually have both modems in a situation where they have agreed on a no protocol session, you actually have a situation where they are stalled in the EC negotiation process, yours wrongly believing that the negotiation is complete, our modems knowing damned well its not. So eventually ours time out the negotiation phase and hangup. PE> I mean, the lines aren't that bad that we all have PE> to give up the moment we see "CONNECT 14400" are they? RS> Thats right, we can for example FORCE and non EC connect, THEN RS> that problem about your modem getting its brain scrambled doesnt RS> arise, the modems at each end of the session agree on what they RS> have got, just like they do with a proper successful EC connect too. PE> Hey Jeff, that's a good idea. Can you try DISABLING EC when PE> you call me, and see what stats you get when calling me? Its pointless, we already know that the EC negotiation has failed. Non EC connects are a dead loss, you dont get the bit stripping that gives the 1650cps type speeds on a 14400 connect, you need the EC to get that. PE> Rod, is there anything that I can do to tell my modem to try harder PE> with regards the EC connects (short of forcing it to do so?). No basically. The problem is that its got a defect in the code which sometimes gets confused in the negotiation process and thinks its complete when its not. There isnt that much control over the detail of the negotiation process at that level of assuming that the other modem isnt actually attempting an EC connect at all. --- PQWK202* Origin: afswlw rjfilepwq (3:711/934.2) SEEN-BY: 711/934 @PATH: 711/934 |
