subject: On-Topic Request

It seems that many of the threads are getting away from law enforcement and
heading toward politics. I've been back in the hospital and just finished
trying to catch up on all of the new messages. I see many of the messages to
be very interesting and informative, but off-topic. Please take a moment and
read the applicable ASKACOP rule:
6. Discussions are to remain within the topic of the conference. The
moderator will be the sole judge of what is and is not on topic.
Subjects that easily fall outside the realm of the topic, ie drug
laws and fire arms topics WILL be kept to how they are DIRECTLY
effected by ENFORCEMENT of the law. Please remember, LEO's are law
enforcers, not law makers. The moderator will make all attempts to
keep the conference open but if a string is declared off topic, all
conference members are expected to concede the issue and take all
    additional commentary to NETMAIL.
I think that the enforcement of this rule has been fairly liberal in the
past, probably because everyone has been encouraged to participate and enjoy
this echo. Many messages have been borderline on-topic because of narrow
links to law enforcement issues, but some messages have almost nothing to do
with law enforcement. I certainly don't want to discourage anyone from
posting messages here, I would simply ask that more effort be expended in
keeping the message on-topic for the ASKACOP echo. Thanks in advance for your
assistance in maintaining ASKACOP as an informative and enjoyable echo. I
will join in this effort, as I am guilty of posting a few off-topic messages.
