| subject: | Re: Notepad on Windows 98 |
From: Chris Robinson .... and minutes after posting I find this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q215340 "this issue can occur if the text file that you are trying to view with Notepad is larger than 64 kilobytes (KB). Notepad can only open files that are smaller than 64 KB. " OK, so here's what I think's happened: - The user has been happily opening text files for however long, thinking that they've been opening in Notepad when infact they've been opening in Wordpad. He had a problem this morning with a text file which I think may be corrupt (it's a report automatically generated from a system we use). I think this file (or possibly something else?) has caused Windows to loose the file association that says to open text files in Wordpad. This means it's switched back to the default association (Notepad) and hence, the problems. Moral of the story: don't believe everything user's tell you.
